Helios was founded by a father and son team. Shabbir started his career as a commodity broker in the UK at the age of 17, inheriting the trade from his father in Sri Lanka. With over 30 years of experience, he established Helios Ingredients with his son Ammar in 2007, embarking on a new venture . Shabbir’s steady guidance is complemented by his active involvement in giving back to the community.

Ammar, representing the fourth generation of the Abidali family in the food trade, serves as the managing director of Helios Ingredients. With more than two decades in the food industry, he is enthusiastic about helping customers achieve their purpose through sourcing the right ingredients at the right price and quality to suit their needs. Beyond his dedication to work, Ammar enjoys engaging in outdoor activities like cycling, hiking, and mountaineering alongside his family and friends. You’ll also find him sampling our ingredients in his own cooking at home.

Our talented technical team, led by our Technical Manager Esther Kiwana, specialise in Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards. They have a diverse experience of working in a variety of manufacturing industries across the UK and Asia, and use their knowledge to deliver safe, authentic and legally compliant ingredients to all our customers.

With a keen eye for detail and a proactive approach, our technical team continuously evaluates and enhances our processes, ensuring compliance with GFSI standards and instilling confidence in both our customers and partners.

Our adroit accounts team manages our financial operations, ensuring the financial health of our organisation. With a strong grasp of accounting principles, financial regulations, and business acumen, they maintain accurate and transparent financial records. Handling budgeting, forecasting, and reporting, the team provides valuable insights for informed decision-making.

Our overseas office serves as an extension of our company’s operations, back to where our journey began, in Sri Lanka. With a dedicated team of professionals, the Sri Lankan office is responsible for managing local procurement, distribution and market research. Through effective communication and collaboration with our headquarters, the Sri Lankan office plays a crucial role in our overall success in staying close to our manufacturing partners and serving our customers globally.
